The Kumasi Central Market, Kejetia which was newly built and widened to prevent fire outbreak and other disasters have been gutted by fire, and goods worth millions of Cedis is burnt to ashes.
The fire started at the entrance near the Otumfour roundabout and the shops there have been damaged totally.
Some shop owners and keepers alleged that the cause of this fire outbreak is the one meter the whole Kejetia market has been using since the edifice was commissioned.
Currently, the actual worth of goods burnt is yet to be known but it’s worth millions.
Eyewitnesses revealed that the 3rd floor and 2nd floor are part of the market that was affected the most. Others also said some shops sell explosive product like shoe leathers and shoe solutions and “cambad” and this also made the fire more fumed.
Shopkeepers and customers who were doing business in the market have been trapped in the inferno and most of them are yet to be rescued. The number of people trapped in this disaster is unknown.
According to eyewitnesses, the Ghana Service Personnel who needed to take swift action to stop the inferno from causing more damage could enter the market when the got there due to the high rate of smoke that the fire was producing but they got the chance to start operations after they studied the situation.
The cost of damage this disaster has caused is yet to be confirmed by the Security Services.
